Aquaculture, also known as Fish farming or Aquafarming, involves cultivating freshwater and saltwater populations under controlled conditions. Farming implies some form of intervention in the rearing process to enhance production, such as regular stocking, feeding, protection from predators, etc. Farming also implies individual or corporate ownership of the stock being cultivated (Source: Wikipedia).
Fish farming accounts for over 50% of the world market for fish products. With an annual demand estimated at about 3 million metric tons and our production capacity at about 1 million metric tons, there is a demand gap of about 2 million metric tons. While there are thousands of fish species all around the globe, only very few of them are viable for commercial fish farming.
At Agrecourse, our focus is on Catfish. We are aiding the transition of smallholder fish farmers from subsistence farming to commercial farming, thereby ensuring food security and economic growth.
